Kay Mac KP 2.jpg

This blog is authored by Kenneth (sometimes Kay, sometimes Palikari) MacKriell, an alumni of Birkbeck University’s History, Classics, and Archaeology department.

He came to education late, gaining his undergrad in Classical Studies (BA Hons, 1st Class) from the Open University in 2015, and an MA in Classical Civilisation (Distinction) in 2018, submitting a dissertation on The Social and Political Impact of the Athenian Ephebeia (Distinction). He is part of the volunteer dig team working at the Sanctuary of Apollo on the island of Despotiko in the Cyclades, gives public talks on Classical history, and instructs at UCL’s Institute of Archaeology ‘Primitive Technology’ four day undergraduate introduction to experimental archaeology. He attended the 2018 Classical Association Conference on a full bursary because he’s special, is older than he looks, and has a large tattoo celebrating his children across his back.

Kay is available as a personal tutor via the Tutorful  website should you wish to be schooled in things ancient and Hellenic. If you want to get to know him better, read the blog or his Despotiko journal.

The little plush monster that appears with him in many of the photographs is his travelling companion, Cuddly C’thulhu, a gift from his son.
